An Grianán Theatre is delighted to be one of the participating venues presenting Lasta: a national arts programme for young people by young people. Lasta is presented by the NASC Network as part of Brightening Air | Coiscéim Coiligh, a nationwide, ten-day season of arts experiences brought to you by the Arts Council.

In a new innovative approach to programming, twenty-one young curators were engaged by the Nasc venues to programme a festival of work for children and young people from 11th to 20th June 2021, delivering for the first time, a national arts programme curated entirely by young people.

An Grianán’s young curators Fergal Lonergan and Ailis Cross Gorman have put together a great selection of events to appeal to all ages.

An Grianán Theatre Lasta Highlights

Highlights include Pat Kinevane’s Olivier Award winning masterpiece Silent, newly recorded by Fishamble to celebrate the play’s tenth anniversary – dare to laugh at despair and gasp at redemption in this brave, bleak, beautiful production. Watch it on demand Fri 18 to Sun 20 June.

Weekend Warrior is Tony Doyle’s one man comedy piece about alcoholism and addiction – trust us, it’s no laughing matter. Watch it on demand from Fri 11 to Sun 13 June.

This Girl Laughs, This Girl Cries, This Girl Does Nothing is a five part audio drama presented by The Everyman and Graffiti Theatre Company. Suitable for audiences ages 8 and over, this allegory about growing into your own skin is accompanied by a resource pack full of fun, interactive activities. Available on demand for the duration of the festival.

We’ve teamed up with our friends at the Regional Culture Centre to present Alone Together, a music festival featuring five emerging regional acts. Tune in to see Tramp, Happy Out, George Houston, Lunch Machine and Laytha perform some of their new material and find out what they have been up to over the lockdown period. Launches at 9pm on Cruinniú na nÓg (Fri 12 June).

We’ll also be going behind the scenes of Revved, a new drama written by Letterkenny born actor Patrick Quinn. Patrick will give us an insight into the challenges of making theatre during lockdown.

Banyan Theatre, a much loved audience favourite at the Earagail Arts Festival, joins Lasta to present a special online version of their show Little Red Riding Hood and will also present a puppet making workshop.

Other highlights include a showcase of locally produced animated shorts, a short documentary about Oona Doherty’s breakthrough show Hope Hunt, drawing and creative writing workshops, a skateboard documentary and Illuminate, an online exhibition of digital illustration and art from young and emerging artists. We’ll be announcing the full programme of events soon.
