Galway Dance Project is delighted to initiate a call out for dance artists at any stage of their careers to apply for a dance residency across the North West region.
Artists do not have to be located in the North-West of Ireland to apply, but artists living, working or from the region will be prioritised. This is a new partnership, designed to build resources and infrastructure for dance in the North West region.
What is the North-West Dance Residency Programme?
The NW Dance Residency programme is made up of a number of local authority arts offices in Galway (city & county) Roscommon, Leitrim, Donegal and Mayo along with a number of venues, The Town Hall Theatre Galway, Áras Éanna (Inis Oirr), Roscommon Arts Centre, The Dock (Carrick on Shannon), An Grianán (Letterkenny) and Linenhall Arts Centre (Castlebar)
The residency programme is managed by Galway Dance Project and supported by the Arts Council of Ireland.
The purpose of these residencies is to build and create a supportive framework for dance in the north-west region, through provision of space, a financial stipend and access to practical supports such as production advice, accessing funding streams and mentoring.
What is on offer?
In 2022 the partners are offering six residencies:
- 2 weeks at Linenhall, Castlebar, (July/August 2022)
- 2 weeks in Roscommon Arts Centre (15th-26th August 2022)
- 2 weeks at the Dock, Carrick-on-Shannon (July 2022)
- 2 weeks in Galway city (September or October 2022)
- 2 weeks at Áras Éanna (Nov/Dec 2022)
- 2 weeks at an Grianán, Letterkenny (dates TBC)
There is a stipend of €1000 per residency.
Support, Networking and Connection
Galway Dance Project will manage and administer this residency. Galway Dance Project is the main resource for professional dance in the North West region. Galway Dance Project will provide administrative, production, networking and mentoring supports throughout this residency and will be the main point of contact for artists throughout.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for professional or pre professional dance artists, at all stages of their career or practice. This is a pilot scheme, the purpose of which is to begin to build a supportive framework for dance in the north-west region and so this award is flexible and adaptable.
Artists can apply for a residency in one location, maybe near to where they live as we are aware that accommodation is not included in the residency.
However, if artists have additional resources (Arts Council or other funding) and/or are undertaking a significant project or piece of work, they also have the option to apply for a residency in multiple locations or in more than one place. The case has to be made for this type of application in the expression of interest form.
Most simply, artists can apply for a residency in one location, where they can develop/practice an aspect of their work. Artists will be supported with space, a stipend of €1,000 and production and mentoring supports from Galway Dance Project.
An artist or groups of artists with additional funds can apply for a residency in more than one or even in all offered locations. The case for this type of residency will have to be made in the application and additional funding for accommodation would have to be resourced.
As well as space and a financial stipend, artists will be within a supportive framework provided by the partners.
We can offer showings of work, workshop facilitation, open rehearsals, assistance with funding applications and networking opportunities for artists.
Equality, Human Rights and Diversity
The partners welcome applications from underrepresented groups.
We are also aware of the barriers to accepting residency placements for many artists who have other responsibilities, such as caring and/or other employment obligations. To this end, we can offer some of the residencies non-consecutively, and/or over weekends and/or over a longer time period.
To apply-please fill in this expression of interest form by Friday 15th April and send a brief CV to email@example.com
Successful applicants will be informed by Friday 22nd April
