Improvised Music Company (IMC) and An Grianán are delighted to announce Olesya Zdorovetska is the artist selected for the NAVIGATOR residency programme this Autumn/Winter 2022. The Navigator Jazz Residency programme offers jazz and improvising musicians professionally remunerated time and space to develop and perform work, while building creative and professional relationships in new locations.
Olesya Zdorovetska is a powerful and innovative voice in new music, fluent in a diverse range of disciplines and working internationally across numerous fields of activity. As a solo artist and collaborator she crosses the fields of improvised, jazz, Afro-Caribbean, contemporary classical and experimental music, and regularly composes for film and theatre.
Olesya is a founder of the UICP (Ukrainian-Irish Cultural Platform) and co-curator (with Christodoulos Makris) of Phonica, an experimental music and poetry platform in Dublin.
Patricia McBride, Director of An Grianán looks forward to “a creatively rich partnership with an artist which we might not otherwise have the chance to engage with. Our first residency in 2021 with Cormac McCarthy was a lovely project where Cormac engaged with Donegal based artists and music students and created a beautiful piece of music inspired by his Donegal surroundings. We are very much looking forward to another rewarding partnership with Olesya Zdorovetska this autumn, when she will collaborate with other musicians, singers and community groups in Donegal as well as finding space for herself to create new music and new musical connections.”
The NAVIGATOR residency programme is part of IMC’s commitment to further develop the national scene for jazz and improvised music, improve artist touring mobility, develop audiences nationwide, and develop creative opportunities and fruitful new relationships for musicians.
Other partners in the Navigator jazz residency programme are The Source Arts Centre, Co. Tipperary The Courthouse, Co. Wicklow, and Ballina Arts Centre in Co. Mayo.
