We kick off October with a talk by Dr David Coleman who will focus on understanding how anxiety affects children, teenagers and families and will give concrete and practical tips for how to help children deal with the stresses and pressures in their lives. Following the presentation Dr David will have a Q & A session. Happening on Thursday October 3rd.
Music Lovers, this month we have ABBA sensations recreating the magic and excitement of an ABBA show with beautiful harmonies and vocals, those iconic 70s costumes and hairstyles, and of course, hit after hit after hit. See ABBA sensations on Saturday October 5th.
We have lots of family fun this October with the adventures of Old MacDonalds farm on the 20th of October. October is definitely a month for drama lovers with a truly varied showing starting with On Our Way to Lisbon, which tells the story of Glasgow Celtic’s 1967 European Cup win (definitely one for the football lovers) showing October 4th.
Conal Gallen and his son Rory are back with another rip-roaring, outrageously funny comedy play in the form of “AFTER OURS”. It’s the hilarious story of how the infamous Bridie Murphy, and her hapless husband Willie, have inherited their very own pub. Not only do they not have a clue what they are doing, but they enlist the help of their best friend and next door neighbour, Betty Head. See After Ours on Friday October 11th.
Aurora: A Modern Myth follows Cass’ protest as she and those around her (human and otherwise) grapple with what comes next for us and the planet we call home. Utilising cutting edge gaming animation and immersive theatrical visuals this is a genre bending experience where different realities smash together. Aurora will be on stage October 17th.
We also have some home grown talent in the form of Aoife Sweeney O Connor’s “An Evening With Wee Daniel” which is an absurdist autobiographical cabaret as they celebrate queer identity, growing up in Donegal, and their unironic obsession with wee Daniel. From their first meeting with Daniel as a baby, to his surprise appearance at their mother’s funeral. An Evening With is showing on Thursday 10th of October.
The Letterkenny Music and Drama group will also be showcasing a trio of short plays on Saturday the 12th of October that has something for everyone.
We will also be hosting a Gig For Gaza which will be taking place on Wednesday October 30th with all proceeds going to medical aid for Palestinians featuring performances from Heads of State, Chonk, Adair, Amy Meehan & Boy M5.
Catherine Young dance will bring “Floating On A Dead Sea” to the stage on Saturday 19th of October. In 2017, Catherine Young took her dance company to Palestine. Floating on a Dead Sea is inspired by this experience; the feeling of being lifted and held by the generosity and kindness of a people, in a place where nothing is normal. Prior to the performance, there will be a screening of Floating on a Dead Sea (the documentary), an intensely powerful film offering a glimpse into life under occupation in Palestine in 2019.
