GBL Productions, the company behind last year’s sold out Women on the Verge of HRT, return to An Grianán this March with Martin Lynch’s hilarious new musical comedy Thursdays with Elvis and they have just announced their great cast for the show.
Westend star Norman Bowman, whose credits include Les Misérables, Guys and Dolls, Mamma Mia, etc., stars as Elvis Presley. Orla Gormley, who starred in Sting’s play The Last Ship on Broadway, plays single mother Lana while Belfast star Caroline Curran, famously known as Maggie Muff, plays Lana’s best friend, the hilarious Mary Magdeline Miriam.
The perfect girls’ night out, Thursdays With Elvis tells the tale of Lana, a single mother struggling with the cost of living and the rising price of Prosecco, whilst trying to survive on Universal Credit. So every Thursday night she and her wee Christian friend, Mary Magdalene Miriam, doll themselves up and have a wee drink, listening to Lana’s mother’s music from the 1950s and 60s and talk about life and men!
One Thursday night, Lana gets the shock of her life when Elvis Presley suddenly appears in her kitchen – and then keeps coming back. Is this rock ‘n’ roll apparition real, imagined or an impersonator sent by her Elvis-obsessed father?
Along with Lynch’s crowd-pleasing Belfast humour, the show is bursting with songs made famous by great female singers like Aretha Franklin, Dionne Warwick, Etta James, the Ronettes and the Crystals to name but a few. And of course, Elvis sings all his greatest hits. And when Elvis and Lana duet, the theatre will be rocking like never before!
Thursdays with Elvis is the latest show from writer Martin Lynch whose other plays include the smash hits The Chronicles of Long Kesh and The History of the Troubles (accordin’ to my Da). It’s directed by Charlotte Westenra, winner of the BWW Irish Award for Best Director for Agreement (Lyric, Belfast, Dublin & New York).
Catch it An Grianán on Saturday 22 March – book now!
