On Monday the 12th of May, We officially launched our Take A Seat fundraising campaign, a heartfelt and ambitious initiative to replace the theatre’s original seating, which has welcomed audiences for more than 25 years. This is more than just a refurbishment—it’s an investment in comfort, community, and the cultural future of the North West.
Held in the theatre’s foyer, the launch event brought together a passionate crowd including members of the Board of Directors, theatre staff, local councillors, and founding members of the North West Theatre Project. Local writer Karen Quinn and Donegal actress Dorothy Duffy both performed on the morning of the launch with Karen performing an extract from one of her original pieces and Dorothy performing an extract from Molly Sweeney by Brian Friel.
Why “Take a Seat”?
For over two decades, An Grianán Theatre has been a cornerstone of the arts in Donegal, hosting local productions, national tours, youth performances, and international acts. But while the performances have evolved, the seating hasn’t. The Take a Seat campaign aims to raise funds to replace the theatre’s ageing seats with new and modern alternatives—ensuring every audience member experiences the magic of live theatre in comfort.
