Trad week 2026 line up

Trad Week returns in 2026 from the 24th of January, bringing a vibrant celebration of traditional, folk and world music to the town. Presented by the Regional Cultural Centre (RCC) and An Grianán Theatre, the festival promises a packed programme of concerts, talks, workshops, storytelling and family-friendly events, showcasing both established names and exciting new voices.

The week opens in atmospheric style at the RCC with Eithne Ní Ghallchobhair, Steve Cooney and Dermot Byrne, combining Ireland’s rich tradition of myths and legends with music from two of the country’s most respected performers. It’s a fitting start to a festival rooted in storytelling, heritage and shared experience.

Literature and music come together at Kinnegar Brewery, where Muin na Muice, the Irish-language edition of The Pig’s Back literary journal will be launched. Expect readings from contributing writers, live traditional music and, of course, plenty of craic.

One of the major highlights of the week sees The Fureys return to An Grianán Theatre as part of their Farewell Tour. For many, this will be a final chance to hear songs that have been woven into the fabric of Irish folk music for over five decades. Another deeply meaningful event is Celebrating Ted Ponsonby, a special tribute concert honouring the life and legacy of the much-loved local musician, with performances from friends and long-time collaborators.

A strong focus on community and heritage runs throughout the festival, particularly in a series of events at the RCC celebrating the contribution of Traveller musicians to the Donegal tradition. These include Rab Cherry’s talk on the Doherty family, the launch of the Traveller Tales podcast with Senator Eileen Flynn, and the Travellers’ Tunes concert, featuring Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh, Conor Caldwell, Bianca Rohleder, Richie Fottrell, Kevin Doherty and Martin McGinley.

Elsewhere in the programme, audiences can enjoy a diverse range of performances, from a double bill featuring Theresa Kavanagh, Manus Lunny and Adam Shapiro alongside Kerry ensemble CUAS, to the family-friendly album launch of Tracks in the Snow by The Henry Girls. An Grianán Theatre will also host a night of contemporary and traditional sounds with Seamus Gibson, So-Young Yoon, Yseult Stockdale and Persian-Irish quartet Nava.

The festival closes on a high with Wayfaring Strangers, featuring Joshua Burnside, Jack Houston, Mick Hagan and RUÁ, a showcase of fresh and innovative approaches to folk and traditional music.

Trad Week events take place at the Regional Cultural Centre, An Grianán Theatre and Kinnegar Brewery. For full programme details and tickets, visit www.regionalculturalcentre.com and www.angrianan.com.
