Vacancy: An Grianán Youth Theatre Facilitator Call Out

We are hiring! Part-time job for experience drama tutor.

An Grianán Theatre is seeking to appoint an experienced Drama Facilitator for An Grianan Youth Theatre for the 2026/2027 season (with potential involvement in our Summer Camp week from 10th-14th August 2026.)  The season usually includes 2 terms from September to December, January to June, mirroring school calendars. An Grianán Youth Theatre meets on Wednesdays and Thursdays on a weekly basis and currently runs five separate classes: two Junior classes (ages 7-12 years old) and three senior classes (ages 13-18 years old.)

We are seeking a Facilitator primarily to manage our Junior Classes, and work in co-ordination with our Lead Facilitator in delivering the schedule of the upcoming year. Our junior classes have one hour of class each week and the senior groups have one and a half hour sessions each.  There are occasionally additional sessions called for rehearsal/prep for special events or performances.

Responsibilities of the Youth Theatre Facilitator role

This role includes assisting in all aspects of our Youth Theatre, including but not limited to:

  1. Assisting our Lead Facilitator in order to effectively complete the upcoming calendar events for the 2026/2027 season, including class cover when necessary.
  2. Committing to tutoring their given classes at the required times, usually 2 hours per week, as well as potential extra required time including but not limited to auditions, extra tech/rehearsals before shows, special events where our Youth Theatre are called upon, etc.
  3. Developing and directing any planned performances or showcases featuring their classes including but not limited to Cruinniú na nÓg and assisting the Lead Facilitator when required.
  4. Assisting the Lead Facilitator in reviewing and adapting the current Youth Theatre Action Plan and further to that then assisting in conceptualising and delivering a new strategic plan and artistic programme for the AG Youth Theatre once our current one ends.
  5. Assisting the Lead Facilitator in the planning of our Youth Theatre calendar so that every class gets optimum opportunities to learn and perform and then working with An Grianán staff to ensure these are effectively distributed on the calendar in accordance with the An Grianán Theatre schedule and school calendars
.
  6. Communicating with the Lead Facilitator, visiting tutors and An Grianán staff to ensure we are working together effectively as a team to achieve our artistic programme.
  7. Liaising with the Lead Facilitator as well as Box Office and Admin staff to ensure smooth communications with students and their guardians regarding any changes to the schedule etc.

  8. Assisting the Lead Facilitator to ensure our Youth Theatre maximises opportunities by engaging and participating with community organisations/events where possible e.g. Derry Halloween Parade, St Patrick’s Day Parade, Letterkenny Pride, etc. and ensuring these are carried out safely and effectively.

Reports to: AGYT Lead Facilitator, Box Office Supervisor (Youth Theatre administration) and An Grianán Theatre Director.

Works with: AGYT Lead Facilitator, Box Office Supervisor and Box Office Staff, Technical staff, Admin staff, Community Employment Staff and Youth Theatre participants. 

Person Specification:

This role requires a motivated and dynamic person who enjoys working with Young People in a dramatic setting, is calm under pressure and can think and operate in a strategic, methodical, well organised manner and can manage multiple priorities. The successful candidate for this role will be required to secure Garda Vetting Clearance.

Essential:

  • Experience of Youth Theatre Facilitation, community youth work or teaching. 
  • Excellent positive, efficient, and courteous verbal and written communications.
  • Available to work evenings and weekends as required.


Desirable:

  • Qualifications in a related subject
  • Safeguarding Children Qualification
  • Full Drivers Licence

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure and to deadlines. 
  • Flexibility to work equally well on own initiative as well as collaborating as part of a close-knit team.
  • Effective time management and ability to prioritise own workload.
  • High standard of attention to detail, integrity and reliability. 


Hours  – Minimum 2 hours per week during term time for scheduled classes, potentially more for special events, rehearsals, or other occasions when required.


Base –  An Grianán Theatre

Salary – €35 per hour
