A major new work from composer Vincent Kennedy presented by the Donegal Music Education Partnership

A second opportunity to enjoy this remarkable suite of new music by composer Vincent Kennedy which received its world premiere here at An Grianán in March. ‘Colmcille, Dove of Peace’ was specially commissioned for Colmcille 1500 and has been inspired by significant happenings in the life of Donegal’s most famous saint.

‘Colmcille, Dove of Peace’ will be performed by the Donegal Youth Orchestra, Donegal Youth Choir, Guest Soloists and Narrator. The soloists are harpist and singer Nodlaig Brolly, soprano Sara Laughlin, tenor Aodhán Gavigan, and uilleann piper Paul Gillespie. The narrator is Megan Armitage.

Vincent Kennedy, long-time conductor of the Donegal Youth Orchestra, is one of the country’s best-known composers. He has written for orchestral and chamber ensembles, symphonic and brass bands, and choral ensembles. His music has been performed by the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, the Band of An Garda Síochána and the Irish Army Band and a whole host of ensembles and soloists around the world.

‘Colmcille, Dove of Peace’ has been jointly commissioned by Donegal County Council and Donegal Music Education Partnership. The commission has been supported by Creative Ireland and Donegal Education and Training Board.

This event is part of the Earagail Arts Festival, 16 days of music, theatre, visual arts, film, literature, circus & carnival on Ireland’s North West Atlantic seaboard 9 to 24 July 2022.
