What happens when a town of less than 10,000 people nearly doubles in size over a single day?
That question was answered in Gander, Newfoundland on September 11th, 2001, when 38 planes were diverted to the town’s airport in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks on New York, Washington and Philadelphia.
In Newfoundland, visitors are referred to as ‘come from aways’, and this musical charts the unintended journey taken by 7000 scared and confused people who expecting to be there for a few hours before taking off again.
They ended up staying for five days, an experience that changed them and their hosts forever.
‘Come from Away’ tells the story of those five days, through the testimony of ‘the plane people’, and the Newfoundlanders who welcomed them.
The people are real and the stories are real, culminating on a piece of musical entertainment that will not only entertain you, it will leave an indelible imprint on your heart and soul.
