The Irish Aerial Dance Fest attracts performers from all over the world and at International Night we present three diverse aerial performances. There’s comic relief with Cikada Circus’ Table Manners, in TMI Emma D’Lemma explores how the digital world can create isolation while the centre piece of the night is Nicole Maisey’s Temporal Aria, a longer piece inspired by her recent ADHD diagnosis.
Temporal Aria – Nicole Maisey (40-45 mins)
Temporal Aria is an exploration of control, surrender, and inner peace. A deeply personal contemporary circus show that explores the performer’s relationship with control and surrender, seen through the lens of her recent ADHD diagnosis. Using hair suspension, acrobatics, and contortion, Nicole Maisey navigates the challenges of distractibility and executive dysfunction, expressing a journey toward finding balance and peace.
The performance also subverts traditional gender roles often seen in circus and personal relationships. In this powerful reimagining, Nicole’s partner remains supportive and present, but out of the spotlight, highlighting a shift away from the stereotypical roles of men in leadership and women in quiet, supportive positions.
At its core, Temporal Aria is about more than just struggle—it’s about discovering joy and contentment within ourselves, embracing the complexity of our lives, and redefining success as inner peace.’
TMI – Emma D’Lemma (15 mins)
D’Lemma’s work explores the overwhelming flood of online information, digital masks, and the isolation it all creates. “The relentless stream of digital noise makes it difficult to differentiate authenticity from illusion. I am attempting to capture this isolated disconnect from reality in this piece, as well as a reminder of how to get out of it. I’m hoping to remind you that even in the most overwhelming digital spaces, real connection has the power to ground and restore us.”
TABLE MANNERS – Cikada Circus (5 mins)
This couple’s table manners go out the window as their behaviour escalates from a slight disagreement to a competitive battle to win the bottle. With dazzling acrobatics and slap-stick comedy, this upbeat act is jam-packed with entertainment for the whole family.
