Fíorscéal Theatre Company Presents Seeing – a behind-the-scenes look at a theatre show in development.

Local actors Margaret Hannon and Sean Donegan with their company Fíorscéal invite you to share a behind the scenes look at how theatre is made and how actors prepare.

NB: if you would like to attend the rehearsed reading only and not the workshop please choose the appropriate ticket when booking.

Part One: Workshop 6pm

Part One of the evening is a workshop on the theme of “Seeing”. It is so important for actors to be observant about the world around them, and in this 90-minute class we will look at how we can incorporate our observations of real life into a theatre rehearsal. Working together as an ensemble, the class will give you a sense of how actors collaborate to create theatre. We will use fun acting techniques, and our imaginations, to create theatre imagery based on your observations of the real world and the people in it.

The class will be designed to be accessible for beginners with little or no stage experience, but at the same time aims to provide valuable character-creating techniques for the more experienced performer.

Part Two: Rehearsed Reading 7.30pm

We will take you behind the scenes of our current work in progress with a rehearsed reading of The Unseen Man by Margaret Hannon, featuring Donegal acting veteran Eoghan MacGiolla Bhrighde. Afterwards, you will be able to give feedback on the writing if you wish, via an online form. Any thoughts you might have will form a valuable contribution to our on-going development of this new play.

About the play:

Unseen Man by Margaret Hannon
Dramaturgical support: Michelle Read

This play is fictional and in progress. Its story is inspired by that of Jim Mc Glynn’s, late of Letterkenny.

In life he was known to me as a slightly scary, loud and confrontational character-about-town who drank a lot. Others knew him as a witty, warm and engaged presence who loved to chat and have the craic. In the words of one friend ‘ he was in the hearts of many’.

After his death I came across Andrew Bonar Scally’s excellent documentary ‘The Unknown Man’ online. It uncovered other sides to Jim, a lyrical and stoic man, who loved his family and who persevered and prevailed against all odds, within self and society. Jim’s story makes me question how much I see and miss seeing.

This play is meant as a tribute and thank you to him and it also aims to celebrate our multifaceted and shared humanity.

This project is generously supported by The Arts Council of Ireland, The Donegal County Council Arts Office and An Grianán Theatre.
