Presented to coincide with the Mental Health and Arts Variety Concert in January this solo exhibition by Emma Grace features mixed media abstracts informed by her own difficulties with physical and mental health.
Emma Grace’s abstract, mixed media artwork is an expression of her life’s journey. She had been nurtured to have an open mind for holistic wellbeing and to express herself through art. But it wasn’t until the decline in her physical health began to impact her mental health, on a daily basis, that she began to explore her art on canvases and started by using the materials available to her at home to express what she was feeling emotionally, and to try to understand her physical difficulties and how this all came together and shaped her mental health. This exploration has opened her artistic practice as an honest expressionist abstract artist, while working mainly in mixed media.
Each of Emma Grace’s pieces has a story. By being more mindful of how we experience our own lives, she hopes this exhibit brings some light into whatever you may be going through, the knowledge that sometimes it is about having a safe space for self-expression, the courage to acknowledge it, and the strength to move forward in whatever way suits you. She hopes that the piece of her artwork that you identify with will allow you to breathe, be present, and release self-judgement.
