Our cast has been working hard rehearsing for our production of Environment the Musical and here are a few snapshots of their first dress rehearsal. Our technicians are still building the set so the stage is looking a little bare here. But the show is coming together very nicely and we are looking forward to our first schools performance on Wed 20 May. Performed by children for children, Environment the Musical is a fun and informative show about looking after your local environment.
Our cast of 35 is drawn from our children’s drama class and bolstered by some of our youth theatre regulars. Since the beginning of the year we have been holding rehearsals twice a week under the direction of our drama tutor Nora Kavanagh who is also directing the show.
Originally produced as a teachers’ resource for in-school practice by local teacher and facilitator Annette McNelis, we have adapted the show for the stage thanks to the hard work of director Nora Kavanagh and musical director Trudy O’Donnell.
Environment the Musical complements the fabulous work of Green-Schools in Ireland. It is ideal for children aged between 6 and 11 and the story conveys the importance of looking after your environment and your community.
It also reinforces the messages of “Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle”.
The aim of the musical was to come up with catchy melodies and lyrics that would convey clear messages which everyone might easily understand. Although written with children in mind, the aim was to create songs that would entertain young and old alike.
This production has been kindly supported by the following: Alcorns Garden Centre, An Taisce (local branch), Brownes Printers, David Donnelly – Letterkenny Town Gardener, Donegal County Council, Ferry’s Refuse, Glenard Plant, Letterkenny Tidy Towns and Lurgybrack Open Farm.
