Drama fans rejoice! Sive is coming!

Seen by a whopping 30,000 people during its sell out run at the Abbey Theatre, we are delighted to announce that An Grianán Theatre will be hosting the Abbey Theatre’s Sive this October.

John B Keane’s Sive is an acknowledged masterpiece of the Irish theatre canon.

About John B Keane

John B. Keane was born in 1928 in Listowel, County Kerry and was one of ten children. He lived briefly in England in the 1950’s, but returned to Listowel in 1955. He spent his literary career there, running the pub that bears his name and which provided him with so much inspiration. John B. Keane remains one of Ireland’s best loved playwrights.His best known works include The Field, Big Maggie, Many Young Men of Twenty, The Love Hungry Farmer, Moll, The Chastitute and The Year of the Hiker.

About the Abbey

Founded in 1904 by W. B. Yeats and Lady Augusta Gregory, the Abbey is Ireland’s national theatre.

They produces an annual programme of diverse, engaging, innovative Irish and international theatre and invests in and promotes new Irish writers and artists.

They do this by placing the writer and theatre-maker at the heart of all that they do, commissioning and producing exciting new work and creating discourse and debate on the political, cultural and social issues of the day. Their aim is to present great theatre art in a national context so that the stories told on stage have a resonance with artists and audiences alike.

Recent productions presented by the Abbey in An Grianán Theatre include Owen McCafferty’s Quietly, Sean O’Casey’s The Plough and the Stars and Carmel Winters’ B for Baby.
