Calling Kitchen Heroes! Home cooking with TV presenter Donal Skehan

As we reach the final of the Great British Bake Off on BBC1 tonight (who are you rooting for? It’ll be a close thing between Richard and Luis) we’re well aware that you may be going into home cooking withdrawal.  But don’t despair as we have live cooking on stage from Ireland’s very own Kitchen Hero Donal Skehan!

Donal, presenter of BBC’s Junior Masterchef, brings his Kitchen Hero Two – The Home Cooked Tour to An Grianán on Sun 16 November.

Last year Donal was the first ever Irish chef to tour a ”live” cookery show around Ireland. He enjoyed himself so much he has decided to do it again and we’re delighted that he’s made it to Donegal this time around.

His Kitchen Hero Two Tour will see him cook up delicious, everyday, simple Home Cooked meals live on stage, with lots of fun, loads of food and lashings of audience participation!

After the show there will be a chance to meet Donal who’ll be signing books, fielding questions and taking the ‘odd selfie or two’.

At the tender age of  25, Donal has already written three cookbooks, Good Mood Food (Mercier Press, 2009), Kitchen Hero: Bringing Cooking Back Home (Harper Collins, 2011), and Kitchen Hero: Great Food For Less (Harper Collins 2012). As well as Junior Masterchef he is the presenter of two RTE series airing this year – Rediscovering the Irish Kitchen and Donal’s Irish Feast.

He has been cooking from the age of four when he flipped his first pancake and has been in the kitchen ever since! Inspired by a family of passionate foodies, his parents run a food production company, and cooking and eating hearty home cooked food has always been a way of life. Donal is also an accomplished food photographer and his photography skills have been put to good use as he photographs all his own food images for his blog and books.

In 2007 Donal started his own food blog, where he writes about his food adventures and recipes.  After only 6 months blogging he was approached by Irish Publishing house, Mercier Press to write a cookbook based around the recipes on the blog.

Good Mood Food was released in October 2009 and received fantastic reviews from editor of Food & Wine magazine, – Ross Golden-Bannon – “Good Mood Food is a new breed of cookbook that springs from the talent of a passionate home cook. A truly scrumptious read.”, Paulo Tulio – “At last… Simple, easy recipes that are healthy and interesting. Donal Skehan’s book reclaims good food from the convenience of supermarket shelves and puts it back where it belongs – in the domestic kitchen.” and RTE.ie, described him as “Ireland’s answer to Jamie Oliver”.
