Culture Night at An Grianán

Douglas Carnes leads the Culture Night Pub Choir singalong in An Grianán Theatre's cafe bar.

Friday 23 September 2022 is Culture Night and we’ll have events from 6pm to 9.30pm

6pm to 9.30pm The Bridge of Tears/Droichead na nDeor installation FREE ADMISSION Where: Upper foyer

Devised and curated by Eve Li, The Bridge of Tears is an immersive experience, with stories, photographs and recipes shared by those who have made Donegal their home, as well as from those who have left Ireland to find a life somewhere new. In sharing these stories, we hope to learn about each other, create connections and build lasting relationships.

Enter the space between hope and experience, listen to the waves as they rock the small boat where you and your fellow travellers sit, waiting to glimpse the far shore. Look around at the photographs and memories of the immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers who have made Donegal their own new home. Experience the resonances of Ireland’s own stories of emigration away from this island to other far shores. The installation is situated in the upper foyer of An Grianán Theatre and will continue until the end of the year.

6.30pm to 7.30pm Culture Night Pub Choir FREE ADMISSION Where: the cafe bar

Join Douglas Carnes, Director of Colmcille Gospel Choir as he leads a group of theatre goers and public guests in a sing-along pub choir evening where the crowd will learn a few songs while enjoying a drink at the theatre bar.

Bonus Event

8pm The Border Game Admission: €10 Where: The Auditorium

Enjoy a special Culture Night low price of just €10 to see this widely acclaimed drama starring Donegal actor Patrick McBrearty and co-produced by Belfast’s Prime Cut Productions and the Lyric Theatre.

On a farm on the border, a fence needs repair after being destroyed by vandals. When Sinead (Cat Barber) finds Henry (Patrick McBrearty) hungover in her field, she ropes him in to help. But re-building a fence is more complicated than it seems. What begins as a simple task soon turns to talk of their past, a reliving of old memories, and a relentless competition to come out on top.

From the award-winning writers Michael Patrick & Oisín Kearney (My Left Nut and The Alternative), The Border Game is a timely and powerful reflection on 100 years of the border and how it has impacted those who live along it.

Inspired by 100 testimonies collected by the writers with real people living all over the 300-miles of the border.
