As previously announced, this week we welcome musician and composer Conor McAuley as our Navigator musician in residence in association with the Improvised Music Company.
Conor will be running a couple of free workshops for local musicians here at An Grianán and the Regional Cultural Centre.
Drum Workshop
First up is a drumming workshop this Saturday 24 June at 2pm in the Regional Cultural Centre. Interested participants should bring sticks, and if they want to bring any of their own drum gear to show/share/get geeky about, that’s welcomed also, but not necessary, just sticks are fine! Some people might play, and some people might not, and there’s certainly no pressure to do so. No advance booking required.
Collective Improvisation – Ways of Sounding Together
Then on Thursday 29 June at 7pm here at An Grianán we’ll be running an exploratory workshop called Collective Improvisation – Ways of Sounding Together with Conor suitable for all musicians (any instrument/any level). It will be 90 minutes long and will have a max of 25 participants. Participants just need to bring their instruments, their amplification if their instrument requires it, and some pen and paper just in case. Prebooking is essential for this one as we want to know your instruments in advance so we can ensure the workshop runs smoothly on the day. Call the box office on 074 912 0777 or book online here.
NB: Over 18s only.
Performance: in addition to the workshops you can see Conor play live with his band mcauley/mckeown/mccullagh on Sat 1 July at 12noon in An Grianán’s foyer as part of the Letterkenny Blues and Roots Festival. Free event, no advance booking required.
